- Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture manhole cover
- The city of Katsuyama is the first place in Japan where dinosaur fossils were discovered, and home to the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum. This manhole depicts the fearsome Fukuiraptor.
- Sapporo City, Hokkaidō Prefecture manhole cover
- Salmon are known by Hokkaidō’s Ainu people as the “fish of the gods.” They migrate through the Toyohiragawa river in Sapporo. In this cover design, salmon swim around the Sapporo Clock Tower, a symbol of the city.
- Otowara City, Tochigi Prefecture manhole cover
- It depicts Nasu no Yoichi, a samurai. He is particularly famous for his actions at the Battle of Yashima in 1185.
- Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture manhole cover
- This is an abstract design that features depictions of birds, yachts, and cityscape. The cover design depicts Fukuoka City and its people as being very active.
- Fuji City, Shizuoka Prefecture manhole cover
- World heritage site Mount Fuji towers behind the whitecaps of Suruga Bay in this manhole cover. The design also recalls the Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji by ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai.
- Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Sewerage manhole cover
- Tokyo’s designer manhole cover shows a cherry flower, a symbol of Japan.
- Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture manhole cover
- It depicts Momotaro and his companions, the dog, the monkey, and the pheasant. Momotaro is a well known legend in Japan, its characters being featured in manga, anime, movies, games, and more.
It is believed that the story of Momotaro has its roots in Okayama, and due to this association it is represented on the city’s manhole covers.
- Higashi-Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture manhole cover
- Higashi-Osaka city is widely known throughout Japan as a “Rugby town”. The City boasts the first dedicated rugby stadium to be built in Japan and the stadium has been confirmed as a venue for Rugby World Cup 2019 and the 2021 Kansai World Masters Games. Due to this recognition, Rugby players are depicted on some of their manhole covers.
